Advanced Techniques

We use the AccuTec AccuFit and TSI Portacount ambient particle counting devices to quantitatively test all types of respirators.

What is Quantitative Face Fit Testing?

Quantitative face fit testing is a method used to ensure that a respirator fits the wearer properly, providing a numerical measure of the RPE’s effectiveness, known as a fit factor. This objective measure ensures a precise fit, essential for protecting workers in hazardous environments.

Our Quantitative Face Fit Testing Services Include

Comprehensive Testing: Suitable for disposable half masks, reusable half masks, gas masks, self-contained breathing apparatus, and full mask respirators.

Advanced Technology: Utilising the TSI Portacount Pro, an ambient particle counting device, to measure particle leakage and calculate the fit factor.

On-Site Testing: We conduct tests at your location, minimising disruption and ensuring convenience.

Equipment Provision: We can supply masks and provide detailed guidance on their use.

The Testing Process

The quantitative face fit test involves the following steps:

1

Respirator Selection

The candidate wears a respirator of the make, model, and size they will use in the workplace.

2

Connection to Test Machine

The respirator is connected to the test machine, which counts the particles in the test room and inside the respirator.

1

Exercise Protocol

The wearer performs a series of exercises while the device measures particle leakage and calculates the fit factor.

2

Result Analysis

The fit factor provides a numerical measure of the respirator’s effectiveness, ensuring compliance with Health & Safety Executive (HSE) standards.

Benefits of Quantitative Face Fit Testing

  • Objective Measurement: Provides a numerical measure of the face fit, unlike qualitative tests.
  • Enhanced Safety: Ensures the highest level of protection for your workforce.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Meets the requirements laid out in the HSE document INDG 479.
  • Detailed Reporting: Receive comprehensive reports and guidance based on test results.
